Konkan Railway proposes 11 new stations on its route


Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) is planning to build 11 new stations and eight loop lines on its network.
The KRCL has sent a proposal to the Railway Ministry in this regard.
The KRCL had identified 20 stations during the time of construction of the line itself. The land was acquired during the construction of the railway line.
However, the proposal has been sent for the construction of 11 new stations and eight loop lines.
The longest distance between two stations in Konkan Railway network is 19 km. The stretch is between Gokarna and Kumta stations. An average inter-station distance of 8 km to 10 km would be ideal.
After the construction of all the 20 stations, the average inter-station distance in KRCL network will come down to 11 km.
Indian Government releases Rs 12,230 cr for MGNREGA

Indian Government has released its share of funds of Rs 12,230 crore to the states for the rural job flagship scheme MGNREGA.
The decision came after the day when Supreme Court pulled it up for not releasing adequate funds for the scheme.
This is the biggest amount for the scheme released in one go.
Rural Development ministry has released a central share of Rs 12,230 crore to the states in connection with the implementation of its flagship programme Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
The Minister also underlined that this will take care of the pending wage liability of the states for the previous financial year (2015-16) and helps the states to run the programme during the new financial year (2016-17).
Earlier, the Supreme Court had pulled up the Centre for not releasing adequate funds to states for MGNREGA and asked for the details of expenditure on the scheme in drought-hit states.
The rural development minister also rebutted reports published in a section of media that there are arrears of wages of over Rs 8,000 crore under MGNREGA for the 2015-2016 financial years.
Former Union minister Silvera passes away

Former Union Minister C Silvera died due to the massive stroke.
Silvera is 81 years old and survived by his wife Lallawmzuali and three sons.
Silvera was born on 6th May 1935 and earned his MBBS degree from Christian Medical College in Vellore. He worked as the medical officer under the Baptist Church of Mizoram before joining politics.
He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1985 and to ninth, tenth and eleventh Lok Sabha.
He was inducted as union minister of state for health and family welfare on 17th February 1994 and afterwards was allotted industry portfolio.
Silvera was the first and so far the only Mizo to be in the union council of ministers
Joshua claims American’s world International Boxing Federation title

Briton Anthony Joshua wins the world International Boxing Federation title.
He has defeated Charles Martin in the second round to win the American’s world International Boxing Federation (IBF) title.
Joshua became the first boxer in history to hold the Olympic super heavyweight crown and a version of the world heavyweight title simultaneously with his stunning win at the O2 Arena.
The 26-year old Briton handed Martin the first defeat of his career to annexe the title in his 16th professional fight.
Priyanka Chopra to receive Phalke Film Foundation Award

Actress Priyanka Chopra will be given Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation’s Best Actress of the Year award.
This would be Priyanka’s second award from the Foundation after she received her first award for ‘Most Memorable Performance’ for 2011 film - Saath Khoon Maaf.
The Dadasaheb Film Foundation will honour the Fashion star with Best Actress of the Year award on the occasion of 147th Dadasaheb Phalke Jayanti.
The ceremony will be held in Mumbai on 24 April 2016.
The 33-year-old actress made to Hollywood film project Baywatch recently while her role as FBI agent in American TV show Quantico last year got her international recognition.
Priyadarshini Chatterjee wins Miss India pageant 2016 award

Priyadarshini Chatterjee from Guwahati, Assam has won the Miss India pageant 2016. She has been crowned as the Miss India World.
Sushruthi Krishna from Mumbai was crowned the runner-up of the beauty pageant while Pankhuri Gidwani from Uttar Pradesh became the second runner up.
Priyadarshini was given the crown by the former 2015 winner Aditi Arya.
Priyadarshini will now represent India at the International platform of Miss World 2016 while the rest two will take part in Miss International 2016 and Miss Grand International beauty pageant 2016.
